Pack Place and Live Music
While the band has played wedding receptions and other
events in Asheville, it was a treat to be invited to play at Pack Square
in Asheville, NC.
The Buncombe County Department of Social Services hosts
different events throughout the year. Their
purpose is to raise awareness of the need for foster and adoptive
families.
In order to help bring people to their events, they
bring in several other agencies.
These agencies offer all types of services to help, not only the children,
but also families and others that would like to assist. These
include counseling, for both the foster/adopt parents, as well as the
children. These agencies are on hand to answer questions that anyone may
have. Some agencies even offer camps for these families.
Included in these events are activities for children.
At
times there are even demonstrations for kids. Last November, when it was
held at the Asheville Civic Center, there were inflatable activities for
the children, as well as clowns!
This was the second time the band was invited to
perform at these events. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a
good cause. However, it didn't go without its efforts.
It appears the night before, Ashville had its 'Downtown
After 5" program. An event where performers meet and play their music for
the residents and passersby of the Asheville area. It seems that they
forgot there was another event following on the next morning. As such,
there was much work that had to be done. First of all, it was a mad dash
effort to get the area cleaned up after the previous nights festivities.
Then, there was no electricity for the band. After a frantic phone call,
the City of Asheville had a man on hand. He quickly responded to our
pleas, and rectified the problem as if it were nothing at all.
Needless
to say, the event was held. Some of the participants chose to take
advantage of the sun and relax after all their hard efforts. Booths were
line up along the sidewalk on the loop around the fountain. Although the
traffic was less than hoped for, it was the
first time that this event was ever held at Pack Square. The music from
the band drew a lot of attention as traffic
would pass by. This would cause individuals to turn their heads and at
least read the banners that were posted all around.
While our desire was to draw more people to this event,
we feel our goal was somewhat a success. There
wasn't a lot of advertising, but people did stop by. Some individuals sat
aroundthe fountain and enjoyed their afternoon. Although some felt
dissapointed by the turn out, just remember, there's always the next time.
And who knows, maybe that one pamphlet you handed out inspired someone to
take a closer look to see where maybe they can help out.
Keep up the good work to all of you!!!
