"Sound & Lighting"

Live Music for Weddings, corporate, and
special events in the Carolinas

There's more to a live bands sound than having a few amplifiers and turning them up so everyone can here. This is especially critical for wedding receptions and events of any importance. Even placement of guests is important. Here are a few suggestions:

Where should the band be placed?

In any event, the purpose of having the band is for people to see and hear them. For this reason, the band should be placed at the front of any event. For no reason should the band be placed off to the side nor  should it be in the center of a room. This makes it difficult for guests to see the band members and to find a place to dance.  Top

Where should guests be placed?

While many people like to get up close to the band, often it is better to be away from the band at some distance. The sound at the front is never as good as it is 20 or more feet in front of the band. TGI's sound is projected from the front of the performance area. There shouldn't be any tables directly in front of the band. Also, older guests may wish to sit further away from the sound systems. Guests should not be placed under any speakers. TGI will work with you to make sure your sound is correct for your venue and your guests, whether it's a wedding reception or any other special event with live music.   Top

What sound equipment is needed or is sufficient?

Tricky question, yet one of the most important. There are factors to consider such as, "Is the event indoors or out? How large is the Venue? How many guests will there be..."

Some bands will try to WOW people with the size and number of their amplifiers. However, amplifiers are just that. Without a mixing board you may hear the lead guitar yet not be able to hear the bass. As you travel around an area or a room the sound may be garbled. This is because each musician will have his amp turned to a level where he can hear, yet the mix out front could be terrible.  Worse yet, if the amp is not big enough for the crowd, only the people in front will hear the music while those in the back will hear nothing.

TGI uses a Mackie Pro mixing board. All instruments are run by a professional sound technician who balances the mix of instruments so that a clear, level sound is projected over the audience. Their sound system is capable of crowds up to 800, yet can be used in a coffee house. Even the drums can be turned down by the use of brushes or different sticks.  If you would like the sound turned up or down, just let our sound tech know and he will be happy to accommodate you. Will the sound be loud?

That is up to you. You have complete control over the sound level by notifying our sound technician. They will make adjustments as you see necessary. However, only one person in your event will have this authority. We generally try to set the music at a median level so as not to stumble anyone. If a guest makes a request for a volume change, we will notify them of the person at your event that is responsible for the sound  levels. They will then have the opportunity to make their request to that individual.   Top

What lighting will be needed?

Time of day will be an important factor as well as indoor/outdoor concerns. TGI has 8 can stage lights available to them. They also have other lighting equipment such as gel lights and laser. Our licensed laserist can actually do beam effects for your special event. If you want someone's name  or a special message to be written in laser, just let us know.

Of course, the band should be seen. If they are in a dark corner of a room, or you have an outdoor event after dark, lighting will be needed. We will discuss your needs at the time and let you know if we have adequate lighting available of if  there may be a need for additional lighting. Top

In Closing

The main thing is to relax and have fun! TGI will help you make your arrangements for sound and lighting for your live music needs. When you hire the band for your event we bring all the sound you'll need. If we don't have it, we'll get it.  Whether it's a wedding reception in North Carolina, a relief effort in Georgia, a corporate event in Tennessee, or a fund raiser in South Carolina, we'll take care of your sound needs.
