JULY 2010 Friends at the Crossroads (in Cashiers that is) The Cashiers leaf festival this October was attended by many visitors to our area. However, we were able to spend some time with Brian Ashley Jones, a Greenville/Spartanburg native, but now a Nashville singer/songwriter. Brian is a remarkable singer with a voice anyone would love to hear. He performed several of his songs, but my favorite is "Pull 'em Up", which he wrote and is featured on "Road Trip Nation" on PBS. Follow the link and choose it to hear for yourself. Brian is a very talented guitar player as well, as you will hear.
Brian is accompanied by a very talented bassist (and a great vocal
harmony) in Tish. Together, they make a fantastic duo. Although
mostly a country sound, you will be amazed to hear their diversity.
Especially is the case when he goes electric on "I Ain't Jokin'". "Wastin'
Time" is another of his guitar treats. Hope you enjoy him as much as
we do.
Thanks for letting us hang out with you Brian! *****
OCTOBER 2009
Highlands Wedding Brings National Recording Artist
The Great Imponderables have been playing weddings and corporate events in the Highlands and Cashiers area for many years. They even perform weddings at The Biltmore House, Grove Park Inn, Homewood, Castle LadyHawke, Crest Center, and many other fine venues. They've had the privilege of performing with many other performers at weddings and other events. However, this wedding was a little more special because of one of the guests. Damien Horne is a National recording artist. One of his songs, "She Can Fly", is some what of the theme song now for the Womens NBA. This bands favorite from Damien is "Heart of Africa". Damien has been traveling the country and the world. His latest efforts include performing with the Music MAFIA from Nashville. BTW, MAFIA is an acronym. The list includes other top performers like Gretchen Wilson, Hank, JR., and many more. Damiens' music is not country but a very diversified array. Damien is a very talented musician as well as singer. When he accepted our request to sing with the band, we very surprised, as well as appreciative. Damien had told us during a break, "You guy's are awesome". How could we not invite a true professional to join us. It was a blast. Damien is one of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet. We just wanted to tell him, "Thanks for hanging out with the band!" Oh yeah, Damien has a new album out. You owe it to yourself and your friends to check it out here. Thanks again Damien. We hope we get the chance to do it all again, soon. -TGI (photo courtesy Regina Holder Photography) *****
Nov. 2, 2005>Crossroads Chronicle of Cashiers, NC "Fall on the Slopes keeps crowd dancing"
*****
Oct 5, 2005> Crossroads Chronicle of Cashiers, NC "Local Band helps victims of Hurricane Katrina"One local band volunteered its time and talent at the "Covered Bridge Festival," an event aimed at raising money for needy families. This year, the festival, an event held annually on the fourth Saturday in September in Euharlee, Ga., fell on the heels of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. "We're not a large group, but we try to do what we can to help people," said John Montgomery, the festival organizer. "This year, it seems the folks in Louisiana and Texas could use our help" When The Great Imponderables, a Cashiers area band, were invited to headline the festival, they immediately accepted. "To be asked to be the headliner for the street dance was a real privilege for us," the band said. The band comprises of Rick Creel, facilitator of the Sapphire planetarium; Creel's son, Nathan; Mike Zinski, owner of a cleaning business in Franklin; and Payton Laughlin, a construction worker from Franklin. "It was the most fun we've ever had," the band said. And, most importantly, Montgomery said, "the event was a success." The Great Imponderables will perform at the Sapphire Valley Ski Slopes on Oct. 19. For more information on this event, call the Sapphire Valley community Center at (828) 743-7663.
