Being a band isn't about playing live music for wedding receptions and special events. It's about having fun, being with your family, and more. Here's what we do when we're not playing (music that is). |

Feb 16, 2006> Sugar Band
The band played at Sugar Mountain, near Boone, NC. No, we didn't play music, but we did get to play in the snow! Sugar Mountain is the largest ski resort in NC. It has over 1,000 feet of vertical drop with its longest run being just over 1.5 miles in length. Wide runs make it easy for beginners to advance to more difficult slopes. It has several lifts. My favorite was the "Red" lift. While the run on the "Red" lift is just a blue intermediate, it was long and wide. The best part is it's off to the side and hardly anyone uses it. It allowed my son and some of our friends to race without having to dodge crowds.
This was a really special day for me. First of all, the conditions were excellent. The temperature was warm enough to ride your board without a jacket. Next, the conditions were excellent. Sugar just received about 17 inches of snow the weekend before. Now, with the warm temperatures, the snow was soft, the slopes were groomed, and the trails were beckoning to be rode upon. But what made it truly special for me was this: The is a double black diamond run named "Whoop -to-do". I actually made it! My first double black, EVER! I know Lisa, we're not supposed to run it. But I had my own lift ticket and didn't go with any of the group. I hope you'll forgive me. Dude (or dudettes for the female of the species), it was awesome. It's not a very long run, but it was enough for us adrenaline junkies. Especially us first timers. Anyway, enough about me. If you get a chance to go to Sugar, check them out. It's in Boone, NC. There are ton's of lodging available, the resort is nice, and the people are great. If you haven't gone already, hurry. The season is fast coming to an end for us skiers and snowboarders. But wait! They have mountain biking down the hills as well. But that's another story.
