Flying Saucers in Cashiers
Western North Carolina is known
for its music. Did you know we also have great ways to party?
Flying down a snow covered hill on a tube is one way we build excitement!
In Sapphire, NC, near Highlands, is the Sapphire Valley Resort. Not only do they have skiing, but they also have one of the largest tubing hills in the south. What makes it nice is the lift. An attendant will have you sit in your tube while he attaches it to a hook. The lift will then take you to the top of the mountain where another attendant will unhook you then send you on your way, sliding on the ice, gliding back to the bottom of the hill to do it all over again!
This adventure is appropriate for all ages. Young and old alike are thrilled by the ride. If you have little ones, they will even allow you to ride together, going over small jumps and screaming (usually by the adults) your way to the bottom. This activity makes for special moments that you'll treasure for a life time.
What makes this a truly special occasion is that it is so easy to get to. Sapphire Valley is only about 1 1/2 hours from Asheville. Atlanta is only 2-2 1/2 hours away and Knoxville, TN is about the same. It's only 3 hours from Charlotte and about 1 3/4 hours from Greenville, SC.
