THE GREAT IMPONDERABLES
WEDDING AND SPECIAL EVENTS BAND
Everyone knows that the Make A Wish Foundation is a great organization. However, few people get to experience it the way that we have. Although the band has been associated with Make A Wish for nearly 6 years, this year was very special to us. It marks the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & WESTERN NC's 25th year of granting wishes in the Charlotte and Asheville Areas. When we were chosen as the Band for this event, the honor was above anything we could ask. However, the real plus came from meeting some of the kids in our area and their families. A very special young man is Nicholas, whom you see in this photo.
This years events was held at the Crest Center in Asheville. The Crest Center has a beautiful pavilion with fantastic views of the mountains. It is often used for weddings and reception hall in the Asheville area.
The band found out that Nicholas' favorite song is "Soul Man", by the Blues Brothers. What others did not know was that our Lead Singer for the band, Payton Laughlin, is also a Professional Dancer. Payton has appeared in movies and worked with individuals like Will Smith.
Of course, this meant bringing Nicholas to the front of the dance floor. If you'll look at the center of this photograph, in the back, you'll see Nicholas enjoying Payton's "struttin' his stuff".
Also at this event we had Miss North Carolina. On the stage is Josh Michael of STAR 104.3 in Asheville. Josh is a wonderful MC. Together, the two of them helped throughout the entire event. Especially were they helpful during the auction portion of the program and helping to raise money for Make A Wish Kids in our local area.
It is always a privilege to be a part of such a special event. The band would like to say, "Thank You" to Carolyn Harrison, the Regional Director for our Mountain Region, for allowing us to be a part of something that we all feel is very special. Of course we want to thank Josh Michael of STAR 104.3 for being such a great supporter of Make A Wish. We'd also like to thank Josh for his great comments on the band and for his support. The staff at the Crest Center was very helpful and wonderful to work with as well. In particular was Kathryn Pekarne. There are many, many volunteers for Make A Wish that helped put all of this together. Without them, this couldn't happen. The names are too numerous to mention here, but you know who you are. Thanks for helping us to have such a great time and for allowing us to be a part of your event. Of course, there are all those that contributed monetarily. I've seen this so many times and you may never realize your full importance and impact that your contributions make. By your making a simple contribution, you have not only helped a child to achieve their wish, but as you heard from their comments and experiences, you have helped others in the family to deal with most trying circumstances. Your generous gifts are those of true philanthropy. Of course we hope to see you at other events, but we hope that you will tell your friends about the moving and wonderful experience you had from being a part of something so special. Most of all, we want to thank all the wonderful kids. It's your smiles that truly make all of us happy. We know times are difficult, but you are never alone. There a many people that love you and care for you. We're just happy that you will allow us to be your friends. We all do this because we "want" to. And Nicholas, if you get to wild and break those drum sticks, just let us know. We'll get you some more!
SPECIAL THANKS to Nicholas and his parents for allowing us to use these photo's.
