Band Aid

There's more to life than just performing and playing music. While the band does enjoy playing at wedding receptions, festivals, and other special events, it's really special to be part of such a great group of guy's. There's more out there than just Asheville, or Western North Carolina.

In a recent trip to Mississippi, efforts were made to help victims of the recent disasters caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Nathan, our lead guitarist, had the opportunity to hook up with some friends in such an effort.

It was hot, but with the support of all the friends, it made things bearable. The group Nathan was in was able to repair approximately 9 roofs in one week. Pretty amazing when you consider the group was all volunteers and none were professional roofers.

All volunteers took time off from their regular schedules, missing work, to assist those in need. At their own expense, they traveled to Mississippi with one goal in mind: To assist as many as they could with what resources and time they had.

As most of us are aware, the disaster from these storms was tremendous. Most likely, the work will continue for at least another year. The storms hit in September and these photo's were taken at the end of December. Hotels, homes, and businesses of all sorts were destroyed beyond repair. Many have to be completely rebuilt. Some roads still do not exist as they were washed away.

As you can see, it wasn't serious all the time. There were opportunities to clown around. It's good to take things in stride and make the best of a bad situation. Things are bad enough in the world without having to make them worse. Fortunately, they never served lamb for dinner.

It was great to make new friends. People from all across the country were here to do what they could. Many have already made plans to return in February. The band hopes to be able to return to be a part of this special group of people.

Of course they played music! It was fun to have everyone around singing songs and enjoying everyone's talent. Nathan even learned a thing or two. Playing with other talented musicians is what makes music so much fun. Playing with those you can call your brothers and sisters makes it even more special.

Oh yeah, the guys couldn't take all the credit for the work. The girls were there to help too. I mean, after all, they're just not for cooking breakfast anymore.
